Sa Dec is called "little Venice": You will find many narrow canals, old houses and old Chinese Temples. The french writer Marguerite Duras lived here between 1928 and 1932. Her mother ran a school on the corner of Hung Vương and Ho Xuan Hương. Duras had a love affair with Huynh Thuy Le, the son of a wealthy Chinese family, when she was fifteen. This was the origin of her famous novel "The Lover". Tran Thuy Le Antique House at 255A Nguyen Hue Street from 1895 with its elegant French architecture, traditional Vietnamese design and Chinese decorations is open to the public.
